Bookcrossing is a novel way to travel

George Newton
7/ 3/2007

DON'T be alarmed to see a few Robert Louis Stevensons and Dan Browns circulating the streets of Tameside this week - it's a new initiative called bookcrossing.

To celebrate World Book Day, Tameside Libraries have released books into the wild, leaving them in a variety of unusual places such as train stations, telephone boxes and even park benches.

And with over three million books registered on the bookcrossing website, readers can track their travelling books all over the world. Mayor Councillor Margaret Sidebottom launched the initiative on Friday at Park Bridge Visitor Centre in Ashton.

Visit www.bookcrossing.com or www.worldbookday.com for more details.

   Very interested in this.

There is an active bookcrossing group in Greater Manchester and I shall tell fellow members.

Perhaps people who found books in Tameside would like to join us.
