Paedophile is jailed

Eve Dugdale
26/ 4/2007

A PAEDOPHILE who abused a Tameside schoolgirl and threatened her not to tell anyone has been jailed.

Nicholas Craig Whitmore, 44, of no fixed address pleaded guilty to indecent assault on a child under 16. He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and a further 18 months on licence on his release.

The judge also imposed a restraining order, preventing him on his release from prison from being at any place where there is a child under 16.

The court heard how the incident happened in 2000 when his victim was only 9-years old. She did not feel able to report it to police until 2005.

Whitmore threatened her and told her not to tell her mother what was happening to her. Fearing she would get into trouble, the girl didn't tell anyone what was going on until she was much older.

Whitmore was charged on 25 January 2006 and bailed until 21 January 2007. He failed to appear at his next court hearing and was circulated by police as wanted. He was traced to Dusseldorf in Germany and extradited back to the UK. He has remained in police custody ever since.

Detective Constable Kath McKenzie from Tameside Public Protection Unit said: "Whitmore abused a child who was too young to really know what was happening to her.

"No child should have to go through an ordeal like this, and the fact that she felt unable to talk about it for six years, shows how frightened she must have been.

"Whitmore even prolonged this girl's ordeal by skipping bail and attempting to escape conviction for his crimes.

Wow, 18 months! This piece of trash shouldn't be released until either, he's too old to be a threat to children or he dies.

This is a horrific case, I hope the victim seeks the help she needs from other professionals, and that this scum bag gets what he deserves.
