CCTV shock as dad views hit-and-run

A DAD has spoken of how he almost broke down when he watched CCTV footage of his son being thrown into the air in a hit-and-run incident.

In a piece of detective work, Shan Khan managed to track down CCTV footage of the horrific incident.

Levi Khan suffered a broken arm after being knocked off his bike by a driver who sped away, leaving the 11 year old badly injured in the road.

The collision occured on Wednesday at 6pm as Levi crossed Atlas Street with his pals. A green Vauxhall Vectra knocked into him before turning left and accelerating along Oldham Road towards Ashton.

His dad Shan, 35, of Buttermere Road, Ashton said: "I know Atlas Street is a cul-de-sac so the driver must have been visiting someone.

"A few of the residents recognised the description and said it had been parked near the flats. But it's not been seen since.

"I spotted that Atlas Trading had CCTV cameras so the next day I went in and they agreed to go through the footage with me.

"It had captured it in full. I nearly passed out when I watched it. The car didn't even stop at the junction. The impact flung Levi into the air and the guy just callously sped away. I was incensed."

Mum Jo, 44, added: "He could have been crushed under the wheels or knocked into the path of another car. He could easily have been killed. Someone must know who did this."

Levi suffered a badly broken arm and doctors say he could be in plaster for a year.

It is a blow for the youngster, a pupil at Canon Johnson Primary School, who recently took up boxing but will have to give up the sport until his injuries heal.

Levi said: "The car appeared out of nowhere and hit me with a huge bang. I looked at my wrist and I knew it was badly broken. I was in agony."

Police seized the CCTV on Tuesday and are working on enhancing the footage. The family have dropped leaflets in the area in a bid to hunt down the driver.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 856 8809.

at least you have the footage, thats great. I was left unconsious earlier this year with a broken arm after a hit and run, and the police didnt see fit to check the several cctv cameras in operation. I guess i am not worth the paperwork.

Mr Rushden-Thomas what on earth are you rambling on about? The education standards in the UK are atrocious obviously, and the fact that you drive a car is extremely worrying also, Nothing you have written makes any sense. I'm shocked your comment was published.
