Going bananas!

TODDLERS and pensioners were among those who took part in a fun run around Ashton on Sunday.

Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust organised the event, intended to raise awareness about the importance of exercising regularly.

It was also to mark the end of its two-week Health Is For Life Festival.

At just 1.5km the run was designed to be open to everyone - with many people walking, skipping and toddling the distance.

A fitness trainer helped the 250 people who took part warm up with some simple stretches and a host of other activities took place on the day, from healthy eating demonstrations and talks about ideas for a better lifestyle.

Michael Cunliffe from the PCT said the weather stayed fine while the run took place.

"It was really hot. It would have been too hot if it were a marathon but I think people were okay because it was only a short distance," he said.

"All different ages took part, there were toddlers, babies in prams, older people, people in wheel chairs. It was so good to see everybody out having a good time."
