Families in car crash shocker

A MUM has been forced out of her home after a car ploughed through the front garden.

Vicky Grimshaw said it was fortunate she nor anyone else was outside when the Toyota Avensis spun out of control on Hardywood Road in Haughton Green, Denton.

Vicky, 38, said: "I was in the back garden with my daughter Megan, who is six, and was minding my next door neighbour's eight year old.

"Children usually sit on a bench outside my window, but luckily I had moved it around the back.

"I'm just glad there were none on the street and nobody was killed."

The car demolished part of her fence and the downstairs window and front door of her semi-detached home have been boarded up. Vicky and Megan have been moved to a hotel for up to three months while West Pennine Housing Association carry out repairs.

Police and the fire brigade were called following the incident, which occurred around 3.55pm on Wednesday.

The wife of the motorist - who did not wish to be named - said: "I apologised to her on behalf of my husband.

"He had to spend a night in hospital after he hurt his neck and his back and is still very shaken about the whole thing. It was a freak accident," she said.

A West Pennine spokesman said: "Our building surveyors and structural engineers from the council have assessed the damage to the properties and found extensive damage to the outside and party wall.

"The damage is such that 24 and 25 Hardywood Road are not safe to live in."
