Some had suspicions

THE findings of the government report weren't wholly received with shock.

The realisation that Harold Shipman probably began killing soon after he became a doctor in Todmorden, West Yorkshire, had been presumed by some in Hyde.

Adrian Pomfret, the former husband of victim Bianka Pomfret, told the Tameside Advertiser newspaper in the immediate aftermath of Shipman's sentencing that he believed the GP began killing while he was in Todmorden in the mid-70s.

Review of certificates

AN overhaul of death certification has been promised, in light of the Harold Shipman investigation. The then Home Secretary Jack Straw said he wanted more information putting on death certificates, such as the circumstances in which death occurred.
