Back-to-back defeats

7/ 5/2008

ASHTON suffered defeats on both days in their latest CLL matches.

Saturday saw them beaten by 33 runs at Crompton, although there were some positives for Ashton skipper Zafar Zaman.

They would have restricted the hosts to below 150 runs but for some shoddy catching as Barbadian Kevin Stoute struck 62 from 35 balls in Crompton’s 194 all out.

Sri Lankan professional Ian Daniel took five wickets for Ashton whose reply began solidly in the face of some good fast bowling from Javon Searles.

However, once Farhan Hussain was out for 33, Ashton lacked the impetus to push on towards victory as they were all out for 161.

Ashton’s first home of the season saw them beaten by 32 runs at a damp Rayner Lane in their game against Monton and Weaste.

Batting first, the visitors ended their overs on 136-4 before taking three quick wickets in Ashton’s reply.

Although Kabeel Akram hit 34 and Paul White 29, Ashton were only left with a bonus point as they closed on 104-9.
