Off the mark

SPRING finally arrived at Castle Lane as Micklehurst won their first home match of the season, beating Meltham by eight wickets.
Having won the toss and put their visitors into bat, Micklehurst exploited Meltham’s lack of match practice as Meltham ended on 152-9.
In reply, runs came quickly for Micklehurst despite Danny Anchor’s unfortunate dismissal when he played on to a slower delivery.
However, Dennis Lonergan came to the crease and raced to 50 from only 32 balls before ending with an unbeaten 82 as he and Quasar Rashid (24 not out) took Micklehurst to 157-2.
Micklehurst’s seconds ensured a case of double delight with a seven-wicket win in the return fixture as Ben Tunnicliffe took 4-26 in Meltham’s 155 all out.
Opener Danny Clayton then hit 64 in reply as Micklehurst ended on 158-3.
