Play to rules

21/ 5/2008

DUKINFIELD were beten by 10 wickets last weekend in a match showcasing the new rules for Lancashire County League matches that are affected by poor weather.

Batting first at Cheetham Hill, Dukinfield saw both of their openers depart without troubling the scorers on a day when making runs was difficult.

However, Mark Collins batted resolutely to top score with 20 while David Gandy and Simon Collins also reached double figures as Dukinfield reached 70-3.

They then lost four wickets for five runs on their way to being dismissed for 113.

Having had one earlier rain interruption, the players were kept off the field during an extended tea break which ended with the home side being set a new target of 64 from 19 overs.

Led by Humayun Farhat who thumped three sixes in an exhilarating, unbeaten 43, the home team needed fewer than half those overs to win by 10 wickets, ending their reply on 65-0.
