Not enough

4/ 6/2008

A PARTNERSHIP of 80 between skipepr David Gandy and Mark Stringer was not enough as Dukinfield lost by seven runs against Woodbank.

Replying to the hosts’ 145 all out, their stand began after Dukinfield’s first three wickets had fallen with only 14 on the board. They were parted when Stringer was caught behind for 30, but while Gandy remained at the crease and continued to bat well, then Dukinfield looked certain to win.

Although a further four wickets fell as the score progressed to 125, Gandy added another 13 with Imran Butt before the latter was dismissed with eight runs required. However, without any addition to the Dukinfield score, Gandy was adjudged LBW for 65 to leave Dukinfield 138 all out and see the Bury side celebrate their first victory of the season.

Earlier, Woodbank had been sent into bat and were reduced to 39-4 and then 105-9 as Stringer took 4-35, only for the last pair to add a decisive 40 runs.

Heavy rain prevented Dukinfield from making amends 24 hours later as their game at Irlam was washed out without a ball being bowled.

FOLLOWING victory over Flowery Field in the first round of the Walkden Cup, Dukinfield entertain Denton in the last eight on Sunday, June 22.
