Usher in more success

GLOSSOP defeated their hosts Denton by 67 runs at the weekend.
Having won the toss, Glossop opted to bat and their young opening duo of Pennington and Toft quickly moved the score to 50 from 10 overs.
Toft’s exit, on 24 after being bowled by Neill, brought Perera to the crease alongside Pennington.
The scoreboard continued to tick over at a steady rate before an inspired bowling change began to turn the tide. With his first delivery, Parker drew a false shot from the Glossop paid man, who could only help the ball into the welcome hands of the man at mid-wicket.
Wilson promoted himself to four to keep the run-rate high but, when he fell to the same bowler, the home side were given some hope. Zaman joined Pennington and looked good for his 18, executing some classy strokes before being bowled by Neill. It was the fall of this wicket that saw the game begin to turn.
Glossop were on 154 for six but wickets began to fall at regular intervals, four for the addition of only 15 runs, and the scoring rate plummeted. This also included the wicket of Pennington, whose 79 was the highlight of the innings
With the visitors teetering somewhat on 174 with five overs remaining, Mark Usher joined Moss in the middle and together they produced a fine cameo, which included three maximums from man-of-the-match Usher.
The pair added an unbeaten 43 for the ninth wicket to propel the High Peak side to 217 at the end of their allotted 50 overs.
In reply, Denton were all out for 150, Usher recorded figures of 2-32, Hargreaves took 3-28 and Perera 4-39, the other wicket was a run out.
Denton’s top-scorer was former Hyde man Walker with a well-made 69.
