Barnard grabs a ton in Newton’s run fest

NEWTON’S Mark Barnard smashed 150 in his side’s home run-fest against New Mills.

Pete Woodward scored 113 to help complete Newton’s huge total of 372-7. In reply Luke Antony made 40, but 6-53 from J Koria saw New Mills all out for 196.

Hayfield once again stretched their lead at the summit of the league’s top division with a good home win over Dove Holes.Dove Holes batted first and, despite 34 from Dan Jones, they posted 151. It wasn’t to be enough as Dave Aldridge (57) and Matt Higginbottom (36) saw Hayfield home by a five wicket margin.

Birch Vale entertained Tintwistle and saw Luke Gray make 74 as the visitors set 196 all out. Rick Johnson returned figures of 4-30.  In reply Andy Johnson struck a quick 40, but 7-48 from Martin Harris saw Birch all out for 147.

Hawk Green batted first at home to Dinting and thanks to 73 from Malc Strong and 43 from Jordan Henderson set 253-8. John Coleman took 5-92 with the ball.  In reply Matt Blood made a fine 83, but 4-38 from Malc Strong and 3-54 from Simon O’Connor saw Dinting all out for 174.

Compstall squeezed home against Hazel Grove for the loss of seven wickets.Romiley batted first at home to Old Glossop and set 176, thanks to 41 from J Kelly and 50 from A Todd. In reply Jamie Cannon made 85 not out and Steve James 83 not out as Old Glossop won by a 10 wicket margin.

In division two Hollingworth defeated High Lane by five wickets in division two of the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League. Hollingworth batted first at home to High Lane and set 175-5. N Leech top-scored with 76.  In reply J Timpson made 67, but 4-39 from Sean Morris and 4-23 from Dave Morris saw High Lane all out for 136.

Broadbottom passed Whaley Bridge’s 215-9 for the loss of six wickets. P Rowston hit 84. Mottram travelled to Buxton and made 196-4 thanks to 51 from Rick Windsor, 65 not out from S Fielding and 41 not out from Ryan Fitton. In reply Nick Smith scored 62 as Buxton finished on 142-7.

Chapel made it home for the loss of nine wickets against Hadfield, who set a target of 164 all out.Rick Ball made 41 and I Morton 52 as Neil Pheasey took 7-37. In reply J Jones took 3-36.

Gareth Evans starred for Charlesworth in their five-wicket win against Buxworth, Evans took 7-45 as Buxworth were bowled out for 137 and made 78 runs in reply.

In division three Compstall lost just one wicket in their victory against Chapel, who were all out for 80. P Worth took 3-30 as L Millen took 3-15.

Dinting batted first at home to Hawk Green and set 188-7. T Janes made 55. In reply D Acomb took 4-41 as Hawk Green were all out for 141.

Hayfield travelled to Dove Holes and set an imposing 234 all out. Steve Farmer (52) and Paul Coverley (61) were the main contributors as Kev Waterhouse took 6-61. In reply Carl Neblett made 51 and N Betts 57, but 5-49 from Andy Ney saw Dove all out for 225.

Matt Bowers made 102 not out and Phil Jackson 61 as New Mills set an impressive 225-4 against Newton. In reply Mike Birchenall took 3-27 as Newton were all out for 118.

Old Glossop beat Romiley by five wickets at Dingle Park, thanks in part to 84 from Jon Wright.

Tintwistle recorded a 106 run win against Birch Vale. Having set 207 all out, Tintwistle saw off Vale’s reply, S Higginbottom claiming 4-12.

In division four Hadfield lost nine wickets on their way to victory over Hazel Grove, who made 160 all out.  P Barlow recorded figures of 4-40 and Dave Want took 6-40. In reply J Bennett felled 6-37, but 47 from S Turnbull saw Hadfield win.

High Lane batted first at home to Hollingworth and set 123 all out. J McCarthy made 36 as A Talbot took 8-29. In reply P Morris made 73 not out as Hollingworth won for the loss of three wickets.

Mottram batted first at home to Buxton and set 260-9. M Park (72) and B Nixon (79) were the main contributors.  P Bentley took 6-76 including a hat-trick. In reply B Nixon took 4-16 as Buxton were all out for 156.

Whaley Bridge batted first at home to Broadbottom and set 140-8 thanks to 57 from D Ryan. In reply Ed Kitchen took 6-61 as Broadbottom knocked the runs off for the loss of nine wickets.
