Matt finish sees leaders to easy win

ALL of last weekend’s Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League matches were completed with Hayfield maintaining a strong lead in division one.

Hosting Tintwistle, they saw their visitors compile 204-9, Martin Harris hitting 79 and Luke Gray 52, only for Matt Higginbottom’s unbeaten 101 not out to give them victory by eight wickets.

Andy King’s 100 helped Old Glossop recover from 17-4 to post 254-8 at Hawk Green where the hosts sneaked home by one wicket thanks to Jordan Henderson’s 81 and Craig Young’s 66.

Dove Holes were beaten by 22 runs at Hazel Grove where they were 185 all out chasing the home side’s 207-4.

Dinting defeated Newton by 56 runs, dismissing their opponents for 144 having earlier reached 200 all out despite Koria’s 6-50.

In division two, Chapel lost by six wickets against Buxworth as they were all out for 156, Lee Bradley with 46, before the latter eased home with Jonathan Duckworth unbeaten on 59.

Steve Woolley took 4-2 as Whaley Bridge skittled Charlesworth for 90, only for them to squeeze home by one wicket in reply as Gareth Evans ended with 4-34.

Dave Morris took 4-45 as Broadbottom were 156 all out at a Hollingworth side who scraped home by one wicket thanks to Leach’s 70.

Mottram were 16-run winners at Woodley where they dismissed their hosts for 175 having earlier been 191 all out, Rick Windsor with 41.

As for division three, there was a six-wicket win for Newton at Dinting where the hosts compiled 195-9, only for Nugent’s unbeaten 100 to hand the visitors victory.

Chapel went down by seven wickets against Dove Holes as they were restricted to 129-8, Waterhouse taking 4-36 before hitting 65 not out in Dove’s reply.

Old Glossop won by two wickets as they made 71-8 after skittling visiting Hawk Green for 70, Wright taking 6-31 and Cooper 4-34.

There was a tie between Tintwistle and Hayfield as the former made 103-9 and the latter were all out for 103, Kevin Neild with 5-36.

Elsewhere, division four saw Broadbottom compile 134-6 before bowling out Hollingworth for 102.

Mottram defeated Woodley by 78 runs, posting 122 all out before skittling Woodley for 44.

Whaley Bridge prevailed against Charlesworth by 56 runs, making 170 all out and dismissing their visitors for 114.
