THE top two in division one of the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League both lost last weekend, while division two’s promotion battle remained a tight affair.

In division one, Newton were put in Dove Holes skipper Frank Gallagher and rattled up 255-7 thanks to Mark Barnard’s 87 and a quickfire 39 from Gary Wilde.

Dove Holes had no reply to the spin of Koria during their reply as he ended with 6-27 to see the visitors all out for 123.

Hazel Grove batted first at home to Old Glossop and amassed 189-6, Paul Eyre taking 3-47 and Lenny Allsopp 3-54.

Although Matt Woodcock made 40 and Martin McGrail 33 in reply, Old Glossop were dismissed for 132 as Grove’s Ian Hayward ended with figures of 5-47.

Matt Blood made a classy undefeated 138 in Dinting’s 223-6 at New Mills where Alistair Stevens (3-68) and Andy Holmes (3-92) shared the wickets.

Although Holmes then struck 53 with the bat, Brian Thompson’s 5-56 saw New Mills all out for 144.

Matthew Robinson’s figures of 5-60 helped Tintwistle to dismiss Hawk Green for 205, only for them to fall 50 runs short of victory as they were all out for 155 despite Martin Harris’ innings of 65.

Division two brought an eight-wicket victory for Hadfield against visiting Broadbottom.

Jones ended with 4-14 as the away side was dismissed for 84 before Nicholson struck an undefeated 47 to guide Hadfield home.

Buxworth were also victorious, prevailing by two wickets in their match at Woodley where the hosts were all out for 181, Lee Goodwin making 83.

However, Josh Ratcliffe hit 62 and Dave Inglefield 47 to see the visiting team home with eight wickets down.

Chapel had a more comfortable victory as they were victorious by seven wickets against High Lane.

James Hawtin took 7-53 to dismiss High Lane for 74 before Chapel made no mistake in reply, reaching their target for the loss of three wickets.

Hollingworth were victorious by 91 runs at Charlesworth where they made 164-7 batting first, Leach ending 78 not out.

Ian Morris then took 5-50 and Jones 5-22 as the home side were skittled for 73.

Whaley Bridge triumphed by 16 runs at Buxton where they made 213-4, Darren Crompton with 97 and Charlie Holden 64 not out, before Steve Woolley’s 5-50 saw the home side all out for 197.

Division three saw Newton fall one run short of overcoming Dove Holes’ 246-8, while Old Glossop’s 152 all out was too good for Chapel who were dismissed for 98.

Dinting lost by two wickets to New Mills having been all out for 155, while Tintwistle hit 168-6 before dismissing Hawk Green for 96.

In division four, there were wins for Broadbottom, Buxworth, Hollingworth and Whaley Bridge over Hadfield, Woodley, Charlesworth and Buxton respectively.
