Grant makes Vale pay

SOME late evening showers ended matches early in the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire League.

In division one, Newton recorded a seven-wicket victory over Birch Vale as the latter were all out for 62, Grant taking 5-31 and Shaw 5-28.

Although Phil Trueman ended with figures of 3-25 in reply, Newton knocked off the runs required for the loss of three wickets.

Matt Blood hit 86 for Dinting who saw rain force an early finish to their game with Hayfield on 141-5.

Dave Cartledge’s 5-38 saw Romiley all out for 100 in reply to Dove Holes’ 124-9, while Lenny Allsop (3-8) and Matt Woodcock (3-19) helped Old Glossop dismiss Tintwistle for 78. Woodcock had earlier made 79 and Paul Eyre 41 as Old Glossop compiled 155-8.

In divison two, the rains came and ended play with Broadbottom on 122-3 in reply to Woodley’s 152-9.

Tim Budd took 4-46 as Buxton bowled out Hadfield for 134, only for Ball (3-13) and Jones (3-5) to leave the home side 66 all out.

Mottram fell three runs short against Charlesworth as they were 137 all out in reply to their hosts’ 140-9.

High Lane were all out for 135 in reply to Whaley Bridge’s 177-8, while rain ended proceedings with Buxworth on 104-9 at Hollingworth where John Theyer had earlier taken 6-45.

Division three saw a three-wicket defeat for Dinting against Hayfield as they made 142-7, only for Chris South’s undefeated 60 to give the visitors victory.

Dove Holes were all out for 41 against Romiley, Chapel were dismissed for 105 on their way to a four-wicket defeat at New Mills, while Newton could only make 128 chasing Birch Vale’s 210-9.

Andy James’ 87 helped Old Glossop to post 229-9 against Tintwistle who were 155-3 when rain brought an early end.

Action in division four saw Hollingworth lose by three wickets as they were 104 all out against Buxton.

Hadfield were 10-wicket winners against a Buxton side dismissed for 43, Mottram overcame Charlesworth’s 168-6 with seven wickets in hand, while Broadbottom won by the same margin by dismissing Woodley for 76.
