Going to the wire?

3/ 9/2008

RAIN was the winner as Sunday’s Lake Garage CLL action was decimated by the showers, meaning no games were completed.

Going into the final three games of the season, Oldham remain six points behind leaders Heywood after taking two points from their match against Monton and Weaste at the Pollards. The game, which was reduced to 33 overs per side, ended with the visitors on 40-2 from 15 overs.

Heywood’s encounter against Unsworth ended with the leaders on 65-3.

Third-placed Crompton saw their match at Norden brought to an early close with Crompton on 39-1 from 13 overs.

Royton managed to make 13-0 before their home match with Milnrow was abandoned, while Rochdale were 4-0 against Werneth when the showers arrived.

This weekend sees a double-header of fixtures scheduled to take place. Oldham travel to Milnrow on Saturday before hosting Rochdale 24 hours later, while Heywood entertain Littleborough before travelling to Rayner Lane to face a struggling Ashton side.

Crompton visit Unsworth on Saturday before hosting Werneth 24 hours later, the latter having welcomed Monton and Weaste the day before.

Elsewhere, Royton are at home to Ashton on Saturday before travelling to Middleton on Sunday. The matches are scheduled to start at 12.45pm.

Only two matches remain in this season’s Armstrongs Saddleworth and District Cricket League which sees Heyside and Bamford Fieldhouse sharing top spot with 296 points.

Heyside were able to capitalise on Sunday’s rain because, as they had a free date, they saw the whole day’s fixtures washed out. Saturday’s play brought wins for the leading pair as Heyside posted a 151-run over Droylsden, while Bamford saw off Glodwick by 50 runs.

Heaton made 61 as Heyside were all out for 244, Mike Schofield taking 6-44 for the Tamesiders who were dismissed for 93 in reply, Watkinson with 5-33.

Bamford were all out for 168 at Glodwick, Stock with 5-68, but Black’s spell of 5-24 saw the hosts skittled for 96.

Third-placed Moorside are 32 points adrift of the top two as they beat Greenfield by four wickets. Greenfield had made 220-6, only for Moorside to reply with 226-6, Baines hitting 73. Uppermill are 10 points adrift of Moorside, losing by nine wickets against Stayley after they had been dismissed for 147 batting first.

Hollinwood compiled 252-7 against Shaw before dismissing them for 126, while there was no play between Friarmere and Saddleworth.

Woodhouses suffered defeat in last Saturday’s JW Lees Lancashire County League match against Roe Green.

Having lost their National Village Cup semi-final the weekend before, the Medlock Road men went down by 53 runs.

Chris Atherton had taken 5-65 as Roe Green compiled 189-8 from their allotted overs.

Woodhouses were all out for 136 in reply as Danny Jones followed up his earlier 55 by taking 5-40.
