LAST weekend saw the conclusion of the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance season with the Shield and Supplementary Cup finals.

The Shield final at Ashton’s Rayner Lane ground, saw Newtonhurst bat first against Friends.

Despite losing an early wicket, Newtonhurst recovered as Potts (51) and Simpson (18) added 75 for the second wicket.

Boyle (25) then helped take Newtonhurst to to 127-5 from theit 35 overs, Nadeem Hussain (2-19) and Mahmood Akhtar (2-23) taking wickets for Friends.

Mosan Tilaal (17) got Friends off to a good start in reply, aided by a good partnership between Amjad Ali (26) and Wasim Aslam (52).

Once those two were dismissed, the wickets began to fall and left Friends requiring three runs from the final over and with two wickets in hand.

That was where it went wrong for Friends as they lost their final wicket with the scores level, giving Newtonhurst victory by way of losing fewer wickets.

Man-of-the-match Potts followed up his 51 by taking 2-24, while Courtney (2-5) and Miller (2-27) were also among the wickets.

The Supplementary Cup final, played at the Lancaster Club, saw Jay Hind come up against Radclyffe.

Jay Hind batted first, but with only Kiren Patel (26) showing any resistance, they were all out for 89 as Chambers took 4-15 and Wright 3-6.

Chasing their modest target, White (43) and man-of-the-match Chambers (25) took Radclyffe to a convincing eight-wicket victory.
