Bouncing back

AFTER weeks of inactivity and poor performances, Gamesley bounced back with a fine 2-1 victory at Woodley.

Although the win was important, it was the way they went about the game that was pleasing.

They showed their intent early on as Gareth Baker and Ryan Howe gave the home defence a torrid time.

However, Gamesley did not have everything going their way though as Wakefield proved a threat up front for Woodley.

Baker’s mazy run ended with his shot striking the bar before Gamesley had what they thought was the opening goal goal ruled out two minutes later.

Ashley Smallwood, who had a fine game, sent a free kick over and although Baker’s header struck the woodwork, Simon Yates headed home before being flagged offside.

The opening goal came on 31 minutes when Smallwood’s cross deflected off a defender’s leg and into the net.

Woodley began the second half by pushing for an equaliser and were rewarded when Wakefield turned and fired home.

Apart from that instance, the Gamesley defence held firm as their side began to push forward with Bolger and Gordon taking control of the midfield.

It was Bolger who created the winner with five minutes remaining, sending Baker through where he rounded the keeper to score.
