Not a happy holiday

WHILE not taking anything away from FC United, this was a poor display from a Curzon side who suffered their second Bank Holiday home defeat in three days, conceding six goals in the process.

The pattern of the game from a Curzon point of view was perhaps highlighted as early as four minutes when a loose ball by Chris Curley went straight to Aaron Burns who forced David Carnell into a save.

Battling against the wind in the opening period, Curzon managed a shot on goal as James Ogoo volleyed well over from Dave Birch’s cross.

Only the width of the goalline prevented the scores being opened on 11 minutes when Mark Redshaw attacked the visitors, but his effort was cleared by skipper Rob Nugent.

From a central position Jamie Baguley wasted a free kick, driving the ball straight at Carnell, but on 32 minutes a quick break out of defence down the left caught Curzon out.

Despite the attempts of the despairing Chris Worsley, a driven ball across the six-yard area ran through to the unmarked Simon Carden who had a simple tap-in at the far post.

The second half mirrored much of the first and it was perhaps no surprise when the visitors doubled their lead on 64 minutes.

Andy Watson was forced into concededing a corner on their left which the home defence failed to deal with and Nugent knocked the ball home from eight yards.

Curley headed wide before the tireless Mike Norton shot straight at Sam Ashton, who also denied Birch before diving full length to thwart Norton.

Attendance: 297

Did your reporter and photographer boycott this game like 2000 FC United fans did? No mention of the boycott and this photo isn't even from this game. V poor.
