Hyde Utd 3 - 0 Gainsborough Trinity

26/ 3/2008

THE Tigers roared back to form after four consecutive defeats with an emphatic victory at Ewen Fields.

They had gone into the game missing the injured Dave Morley, Andrew Teague and Chris Simm, while manager Steve Waywell suffered a severe bout of flu.

However, the reshuffled Tigers never looked in any danger once Gareth Seddon had fired them into a 12th minute lead.

Hyde could have been a goal down by then had Craig Dootson not made a brilliant save.

Once the Tigers had their noses in front, the confidence began to ooze as Nicky Clee had an effort tipped onto the bar by Adam Sollitt.

Their midfield was given much-needed energy by Lee Rick and Portuguese trialist Carlos de Graca, Rick providing Seddon and Matthew Tipton with a succession of through balls.

It was Tipton who grabbed Hyde’s second with an exquisite finish five minutes into the second half before Seddon ended the scoring with his second of the evening.

Hyde could have grabbed more goals, but although the Blue Square North play-offs may look nothing more than a dream, they showed what might have been had they been more consistent in 2008.
