Mossley 0 - 4 Harrogate Railway

9/ 4/2008

THE lesson after this match is ‘never say it can’t get any worse, because it inevitably does’.

Dealing with the bright spots first, Paul Garvey and Steve Sheil were available for selection for the first time this year for Mossley who saw Gareth Hamlet’s goal ruled out for offside, while Lee Blackshaw struck the bar.

In all honesty, that was about it for Mossley against a Harrogate side who had already created three good chances in the first 19 minutes. Ryan Scott whistled a free kick inches over the bar, Ashley Connor made a point-blank save from Ben Jones before pushing away Richard Marshall’s 30-yard drive.

A collision between two Harrogate players going for the same ball went unnoticed by the Mossley defence and Carl Fox was given time to turn and shoot across Connor.

Just before half-time the lead was doubled when Scott outpaced the defence and scored from close range. Jones then netted the third as the Lilywhites’ defence again capitulated under pressure and pace before substitute Chris Rosindale got the fourth in similar style.

That was the 100th goal which Mossley have conceded in all competitions this season, 95 of them coming in the league, but it would have been much worse but for some of Connor’s performances in goal.

Attendance: 131
