Pace unhappy with fixture pile-up

16/ 4/2008

DROYLSDEN boss Dave Pace has hit out at non-league’s ruling body after the Bloods were forced to play their final five Blue Square Premier league games in a week-and-a-half.

Last Saturday’s postponed match against Ebbsfleet United has been rearranged for Thursday, 48 hours after the Bloods’ trip to Weymouth and two days ahead of their away match at Histon.

Throw in next Tuesday’s home tie with Woking and next Saturday’s final game at Stafford Rangers and you see why Pace was practically frothing at the mouth at the start of this week.

He said: "The last time we had to play, Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday was in the UniBond League when we were going for four trophies in a season. This is the second time we’ve had this run of games scheduled, so they should play more midweek games earlier in the season.  I suppose it’s the same for everyone but we’ve got five games to play in 10 days or whatever it is which is nigh-on impossible for anyone – even Manchester United – but we’ll have to get on with it.  It’s a complete and utter shambles to be honest. We have to go to Weymouth and we won’t get back until 5am on Wednesday, then we play again on the Thursday and then we have to go to Histon. It’s not as if we’ve been heavily involved in the cup competitions, it’s just the way that things have turned out."

The Bloods were officially relegated from Blue Square Premier despite winning 2-1 at Farsley Celtic last midweek.

Ironically, the drop came at a time when they have posted a run of improved results but Pace rejects any notion his side have been playing without fear.

He said: "We did have fear last week; beforehand, we said we were playing for our lives and nerves took over during the second half at Farsley when we didn’t take our chances.

"There was a fear factor still there but now we want to finish as high as we can."
