Happy Jack calls time

16/ 4/2008

HARRY Jack, the longest-serving referee in the Lancashire and Cheshire AFL is retiring after 35 years on the whistle.

Harry, who lives in Hyde, began his refereeing by officiating a Mellor FC game at Brabyns Park and will end his career with a game there.

He has also served on the league management committee for a number of years with his current brief being fixtures secretary.

Harry has been presented with a tie from the league but he was also delighted to be presented with a signed picture from top ref Graham Poll who was delighted to help out when contacted by Mellor chairman George Dearsley.

George said: "Harry is highly respected by all of the clubs in the league and always played it to the book and he has been a great example to the other refs in the league."

Lancashire and Cheshire AFL chairman Keith Marsden added: "Harry has been a tremendous servant for the league and his involvement will continue as he is staying on the league management committee."
