Solihull Moors 1-4 Hyde Utd

23/ 4/2008

HYDE bounced back in style after five consecutive defeats by recording an emphatic victory over their in-form hosts at Damson Park.

Solihull had not lost at home this year and came into the game with a recent thrashing of play-off hopefuls Southport under their belts.

After such a disappointing second half of the season, it was a case of too little too late for the dispirited Tigers, but Solihull were well beaten on the day.

Steve Waywell went back to basics and picked the midfield four who had served him so well in the first half of the season and they did not let him down, all four contributing to an excellent team performance.

It was the home side who took the lead on 33 minutes through Darren Middleton’s penalty after Andy Teague had got into a tangle while attempting to clear and the ball brushed his hand. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the spot although it was harsh on the Tigers who had seen much stronger appeal waved away minutes earlier.

Three minutes later though, Matthew Tipton’s cross kissed a defender’s hand and a spot kick was awarded, Tipton making no mistake from the spot.

Having performed well and enjoyed most of the possession, Hyde grabbed another goal two minutes before the break when Nicky Clee crossed from the left and Gareth Seddon headed home.

Unlike recent matches, Hyde did not surrender their half-time lead as Clee converted Tipton’s cross within six minutes of the restart for a rare headed goal.

Tipton had another goal ruled out for handball before Seddon grabbed Hyde’s fourth in the 65th minute to round off a thoroughly professional performance, although there was still time for Craig Dootson to make two fine saves as the Moors staged a late rally.
