Histon 2 - 0 Droylsden

THE return battle of last season’s Nationwide North and South champions saw the village side from Cambridgeshire record a double over the Bloods in a drab affair.
Both sides tried hard to break the deadlock in the first half but they lacked quality in front of goal until Histon made the breakthrough on 37 minutes. Prior to that, a Jamie McGuire effort lacked any power to trouble Danny Naisbitt while Danny Wright stuck a post for the hosts with a speculative shot.
Droylsden then forced a couple of corners from which Sean Newton saw a shot cleared off the line and Chris Denham pulled an effort off target. Histon then opened the scoring when Adam Dugdale’s attempted clearance fell kindly to Wright who measured his shot beyond the reach of Paul Phillips, who then denied Wright from the restart.
Droylsden’s best chance came on 52 minutes when Ashley Burbeary’s cross found the unmarked Kevin Lynch whose header went over the bar. Droylsden almost gifted a second goal to their hosts from their own goal kick, but Antonio Murray steered his shot over the bar from Nathaniel Knight-Percival’s cross.
That was not before Murray himself had sent a free kick just a yard over the bar.
Histon secured the points when Wright bagged his brace from Adrian Cambridge’s low cross on 77 minutes.
In the dying moments, Jamie Barker played Murray through, but Phillips was off his line quickly to save, leaving Droylsden with just two games left of a difficult season.
