Burr to build

14/ 5/2008

PLAYERS coming in rather than leaving are on Steve Burr’s mind as he plots Stalybridge Celtic’s promotion push for 2008/09.

At the end of a campaign which saw his side miss out on a spot in Blue Square Premier, the Celtic boss wants to boost his squad rather than replace outgoing stars.

However, with Paddy Gamble returning to Nottingham Forest at the end of his season-long loan, Burr requires a keeper to work alongside Martin Pearson.

He said: "The chairman (Rob Gorski) has contacted me to let me know what we can do.

"Myself and Paul Mitchell (assistant manager) can get cracking on where we need to strengthen and renegotiating with the players already with us.

"We always want to strengthen in all departments, but with the lads having had a season under their belts and being a young side anyway, they can only improve and get better.

"I’d like to think there won’t be a lot of movement out but clubs coming in for some of our lads is something we can’t do much about.

"I know a lot of the players are being watched by other clubs because of what they have done for us this season which reflects well on the club."
