Ashton Utd 4-1 Buxton

27/ 8/2008

ASHTON followed up Saturday’s excellent win at Boston with a comprehensive victory over Buxton at Hurst Cross.

The visitors collapsed in the second half after losing their discipline and having two players sent off, but that should not detract from another confident performance from the Robins.

Buxton had the ball in the net after only seven minutes, but Gavin Knight was offside when he prodded the ball home at the far post.

A minute later the Bucks were convinced they should have had a penalty when Knight went tumbling over Ashton keeper Terry Smith, but the referee waved away their claims.

Ashton took the lead when Ben Deegan chased a lost cause down by the corner flag before playing the ball to Ian Fitzpatrick, who was tripped by Bucks’ keeper Scott Hartley.

Fitzpatrick calmly slotted home the penalty, much to the annoyance of Buxton assistant manager Clive Freeman, who then found himself sent from the dugout for his protests.

Buxton’s Michael Towey received a straight red card for using an elbow just after the hour mark, and five minutes later, Ashton increased their lead when Ryan Moore to headed home.

Three minutes later the third goal came courtesy of a fine left-footed shot on the turn from Deegan. Although Ashton dominated possession, Buxton pulled a goal back against the run of play when Mark Hume bundled the ball home from close range. Unfortunately, less than a minute later, the same player was dismissed for using foul and abusive language to referee Trevor Massey.

Ben Smith then added Ashton’s fourth goal in the 84th minute to seal another memorable win.
