Mossley 3-1 Ramsbottom Utd

3/ 9/2008

MOSSLEY came from behind at Seel Park to secure an FA Cup first qualifying round tie against the winners of Wednesday’s replay between Flixton and Bottesford Town.

The North West Counties League visitors looked the better side for most of the first half and Josh Hill would have scored but for Liam Higginbotham’s block.

However, Mossley failed to heed that warning and went behind on the half-hour when the referee played advantage and James Morley’s speculative shot from just outside the box bounced up off Higginbotham and over the line.

Just before the break, Hill saw an effort bounce back off the post, while Mossley manager Chris Willcock could not wait to get his team into the dressing room.

The Lilywhites turned the game on its head in the first 20 minutes of the second half. It was Lee Blackshawe who levelled the scores with a cross shot, although Mike Fish claimed to have got a touch to the ball.

Mossley then went ahead when Danny Egan met Leon Henry’s crossfield ball to make it 2-1.

At the other end, Jonathan Lee had an effort ruled out for offside despite appearing to be level.

That was all the visitors offered for the rest of the game as Fish and Egan combined for the final goal, the latter breaking on the right-hand side before unselfishly finding the unmarked Fish.

Although both sides made further changes, they just disrupted the flow of the game and did not lead to any further goals.

Attendance: 202
