Hyde Utd 3 -1 Vauxhall Motors

24/ 9/2008

CHRIS Brass and Neil Tolson rung the changes for Hyde giving debuts to three players in their first home game since taking over.

The formula worked as the Tigers registered their first win for five weeks and gained revenge for their recent Setanta Shield result.

Nathan Wharton returned to Hyde on loan from Ashton United, while reserves Chris Cooke and David Owens started for the first time. Two goals midway through the first Half set Hyde on their way, but Karl Noon kept Vauxhall in the game with a goal just before half-time. A through ball from Chris Simm set up debutant David Owens for Hyde’s first on 27 minutes.

Four minutes later, Simm found the net himself after a defensive mix-up, while Hyde could have added to their tally before Noon pulled one back for the visitors.

However, Nicky Clee scored for Hyde from the restart when James Coates could only parry Lee Cartwright’s shot. Vauxhall thought they had won a penalty 10 minutes later after Chris Lynch appeared to bring down Noon and referee Mr Bramley pointed to the spot. However, his assistant intervened suggesting a dive and the decision was reversed.

That was Vauxhall’s last chance as Simm hit a post and Owens had a 30-yard screamer against the bar as the Tigers produced a much improved performance after recent reversals.

MONDAY night’s Cheshire Cup tie saw the Tigers beaten 1-0 by a Congleton Town side three divisions beneath them.

Although Hyde were without six regular starters, there was enough talent on show to secure a victory, only for Chris Simm to limp off with a groin injury five minutes before the break.

By that time, Ryan Greene had already put Congleton ahead and once behind, Hyde never looked like equalising.l
