ASHTON United have announced that manager Danny Johnson has signed a contract with the Hurst Cross outfit.
The 33-year-old Salfordian, one of the younger managers in non-league football, is in his second season with the Robins.
His first campaign saw the club finish 10th in the UniBond League Premier Division, the club’s highest placing in five seasons at that level of competition.
Building on that achievement, the club’s summer signings have helped them to post impressive wins over Boston United and Buxton to find themselves in the top four.
Club secretary Bryan Marshall said: "Danny expressed his wish to stay at Ashton United and both parties are hopeful that this will put an end to the current speculation linking the manager to jobs at other clubs. Danny has committed his immediate future to the club and the club to him. Now both parties want to get on with the job of consolidating the league position and hopefully building on the excellent start the team has made to the current season."
The former Manchester United junior turned to management when his playing career was cut short by injury, firstly with representative and reserve teams before he was given his first real break, taking over the reigns at Trafford FC.
Despite having a very small budget on hand at Shawe View, he still managed to turn a struggling Vodkat League side into a team on the verge of gaining promotion back to the UniBond League, before accepting Ashton’s offer to be their new manager in April 2007.
