A golden Jubilee for in-form Proffitt

FAIRFIELD course record holder Stewart Proffitt was in top form at his home club as he took the Jubilee Cup.
The 36-hole competition saw him post an impressive two-round total of 129 to finish a shot clear.
The over-60s seniors Prize was won by Eddie Vickery (66) and the day prize went to Phil Murray (62).
More medal action at Fairfield saw a Wednesday competition taken by Paul Wilks (62) while a Saturday competition saw the divisional winners as Paul Robson (61), Barry Leonard (60) and Peter Reilly (62).
Medal play at Stamford saw celebrations in the clubhouse as Dave Halliday had a hole-in-one at the 16th.
Peter Smith also had cause for celebration, winning division one with 63, the score by which Alan Johnson won a cpo from Mark Devlin in division two, while Paul Sandiford’s 64 gave him top spot in division three.
Denton’s ladies were in LGU medal action and Y Evans led in with 72 after winning a cpo with Laura Thomas.
Singles Stableford play at Ashton had the divisions won by Bill Wrigley (38), Joe Wray (35) and Steve Barcroft (40).
Ashton’s ladies were in ‘major’ action for the Hall Cup, an eclectic medal played over two days, with Sylvia Haq (70.3) the proud winner. Lorraine Suddaby and Jacqui Dawber were the day winners.
Ashton junior Chynna Hobson had a great day when playing in a Lancashire juniors competition at Royal Lytham. The 13-year-old’s 36 handicap will be tumbling as she shot a superb 85 gross for a nett score of 49 over the par 62 course.
Ashton’s assistant professional James Salt won the North of England pre-qualifier for the British Par Three Championship, carding a three-under-par 51 before beating two other players at the first play-off hole.
Dukinfield have made a bright start in their first season in the WGTB Golf Trophy as Gary Beresford and J Harrop followed E Barton and R Kent into the last 64 pairs.
The latest results in the Oldham and District League saw Ashton beat Saddleworth in division A, only for Stamford to be whitewashed by Oldham.
As for division B, there were wins for Denton, Ashton and Stamford against Dukinfield, Saddleworth and Oldham respectively.
