DUKINFIELD RUFC’S 18-5 victory over Ormskirk last weekend meant that the league title and promotion went the way of the Blocksages team.
Facing their second-placed visitors, Dukinfield went ahead with Gareth Callum’s penalty before a flowing move ended with scrum-half Daryl Cornthwaite crossing for a try converted by Callum, making it 10-0.
Late in the half, Dukinfield’s pack gained a lineout from which Andrew Sheplet won possession, resulting in a strong drive which led to Gareth Cousens being driven over for another try.
The second half saw Dukinfield defending their line, mainly due to the strong wind blowing in their faces as Ormskirk registered their only score of the afternoon following a Dukinfield mistake.
However, Callum rounded things off in the final minutes by landing his second penalty into the wind, ensuring South Lancs and Cheshire One rugby next season.
Dukinfield’s second team finished mid-table after losing 24-12 against Winnington Park, while the thirds claimed seventh place in their table after a 7-3 victory at Marple.
