Good finish

23/ 4/2008

ASHTON RUFC ended their North Lancs One campaign by saving the best until last with a 20-8 defeat of Bolton.

It did not look good when the visitors took a third minute lead after Ashton lost possession and Bolton’s winger wriggled free to score in the corner.

However, Ashton hit back in the 20th minute, driving and recycling the ball until the move was finished off by Dave Stanley.

That was the prelude to probably the best try seen at Gambrel Bank all season as Simon Ramsey, Stanley and Tom Hibbert all combined to send Stuart France over for a try converted by Hibbert.

Bolton cut their deficit with a penalty but despite dominating early second-half possession, they were unable to score despite Ashton losing Rick Parker to the sinbin.

Having held out and returned to 15 men, Ashton went back ahead through Hibbert’s penalty before the same player ended the scoring, taking Gareth Blomeley’s pass at pace for a thoroughly deserved try.
