Youngest transfer yet?

30/ 7/2008

A LOCAL child could well be one of the youngest players to make a move during the summer transfer market.

Five-year-old Nicholas Elliott-Ashworth (pictured) has been invited to join Manchester City’s Academy set-up after wowing coaches.

Representatives from the Premier League club had gone to Nicholas’ school, St George’s CE, Mossley, to talk to the children and watch them play some football.

One session later and Nicholas had done so well that a letter inviting him to sign up is apparently on its way.

It would be a dream come true for the five-year-old who has a season ticket to watch City and whose favourite players are Blues past and present Joe Hart, David James and Nicolas Anelka.

Dad Mark admitted: "It was a shock, albeit a nice one! He’s been kicking a ball since he was able to walk like all toddlers do.

"He likes playing outfield, although he’s always got his goalkeeping gloves on and wants to play in goal. I think he’s quite good in goal but I suppose every father thinks that about his children."
