Kendal Town 1-2 Mossley

A RETURN to form saw Mossley see off higher ranked opposition in this FA Cup second qualifying round tie.

The Lilywhites had two recent defeats to shake off, but with Kendal handily placed in the Unibond Premier League, the task was not to be underestimated.

While Hobson screwed an effort wide for Kendal, Alex Taylor was guilty of a miss which would have seen Mossley chasing the game.

Fifteen minutes into the half, the tide started to turn as Dignan had a goalbound effort blocked and Boshell had one cleared off the line.

Boshell did get the ball in the net soon afterwards but it was adjudged offside. Mike Fish failed to add to his tally as, with the keeper off his line, his lob bounced onto the bar.

Mossley got their reward on the stroke of half-time when Fish headed back across goal for Blackshaw to get between two defenders and squeeze the ball over the line.

Mossley could have done without the break as Kendal came quickest out of the blocks after the break. They were soon level when Mulvaney’s corner dropped for Hobson to force the loose ball home.

Again Kendal switched off though and handed the initiative back to Chris Willcock’s men. Once Challinor replaced Cooke, Leon Henry pushed further forwards and this proved decisive.

With 10 minutes left, Fish got down the left and passed the ball across goal.

Although Danny Egan did not get there, Henry did and could not miss from a few yards out.

Hallam forced Higginbotham to tip his long-range drive over the bar as the Lilywhites held out.
