Ryan is a dashing knight

16/ 7/2001

RL: Derby City 18 Manchester Knights 52

Free-scoring Ryan Knight grabbed a four-try haul in this victory over a determined Derby.

The opening quarter saw a tightly-contested two sides slug it out, before Mark Fitton's early touchdown for the Droylsden-based Manchester Knights.

This was quickly cancelled out by Tony England's touchdown after a clever kick from Gavin Morrisey.

And then Knight stepped forward. His first was a 60-metre solo dash, before two tries in just four minutes by Manchester scrum-half Danny Atherton gave the Knights a commanding half time lead.

Knight completed his hat-trick in the 48th minute, including a long-range breakaway during a sustained period of Derby pressure.

Ian Bryson crossed later, following a Derby score by prop Adam Millward. Two late tries by home winger Martin Kent didn't alter the outcome.
