Cornelly makes Lincoln switch

19/12/2002

SOCCER: Ashton United's flying winger Chris Cornelly has joined the ex-Tameside set in the Nationwide League by linking up with third division Lincoln City.

Cornelly, who has made over 150 appearances for the Robins, scoring more than 50 goals, suitably impressed Imps' manager Keith Alexander at a recent trial and made his debut on December 14.

Ironically, Cornelly came on as a second half substitute for former Hyde favourite Simon Yeo in Lincoln's 2-2 home draw with Cambridge.

The Imps are in 13th place in the third division table.

Cornelly, who almost joined Oldham Athletic last summer, also joins Ben Futcher (ex-Stalybridge) and Scott Willis (ex-Droylsden) at Sincil Bank.
