Hitman set for High Court?

7/ 9/2005

SPORTS Network supremo Frank Warren has confirmed he has sought an injunction preventing IBF light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton from fighting for any other promoter.

Warren claims he has a three-fight agreement to promote Hyde's 'Hitman', while the Hatton camp insist he became a free agent after his victory against Kostya Tszyu.

A Sports Network statement read: "With great sadness and regret, Sports Network Ltd has commenced proceedings in the High Court for an order restraining Ricky Hatton from breaching his promotional agreement with Frank Warren.

"Sports Network Ltd has been pushed into this position by the numerous comments made by Ray Hatton in the media over the last few days and has been forced to issue proceedings to protect its position."

Hatton's father has admitted talks have taken place with other promoters, with rumours linking Hatton to a fight with WBA champion Carlos Maussa at the HallamFM Arena, Sheffield, on November 25.

Before facing Maussa, Hatton has to come through arguably the toughest fight of his career so far against Warren.

Until that is resolved, Hatton faces a spell on the sidelines when his stock should be at its highest.
