Hatton misses out
14/12/2005
HYDE'S world boxing champion Ricky Hatton missed out in his bid to become BBC Sports Personality of the Year last weekend.
The IBF and WBA light-welterweight champion was named as one of the final six nominees, but was denied a spot in the top three.
Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff took the main award, ahead of sailing's round-the-world record-breaker Dame Ellen MacArthur, with Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard in third.
Hatton, England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and tennis player Andrew Murray made up the final six.
