MOSSLEY almost threw away victory in their first match of 2006, conceding two late goals to the hosts.

While Sam McEwan was a hero in the first half to deny Jones and Robinson, he will want to forget his role in Kidsgrove's first goal.

Substitute Richard Eyre was credited with the strike as his weak effort bounced in front of McEwan, who sliced the ball over his line while attempting to clear it.

Mossley had gone three goals up earlier, Stephen Sheil putting them ahead on 16 minutes as his low effort bobbled into the net.

Paul Challinor doubled the lead 10 minutes after half-time from Christian Cooke's cross, while Chris Downey added a third from the penalty spot shortly afterwards.

Kidsgrove made a couple of changes late on which brought a change in their luck.

After Eyre's goal, his corner found Darren Twigg who headed a second, but it was too little too late.
