Hatton faces court fight

15/ 2/2006

RICKY Hatton flies to America this week where he will face a court action brought by French boxer Souleyman M'Baye.

He is suing Hatton for $3m loss of earnings after the Hitman elected to face Carlos Maussa in Sheffield last year rather than face M'Baye, who is apparently claiming he should have faced the Colombian for the WBA light-welterweight title rather than Hatton.

Rather than continue preparing for a fight in May, Hatton now has the distraction of a five-day trip Stateside where he and solicitor Gareth Williams are scheduled to give depositions next Tuesday.

Mr Williams said: "I got a phone call at 10.30pm last Friday night from my American contacts telling me we needed to be in America this week.

"All of a sudden M'Baye is managed by Frank Warren and he's brought proceedings in America at which he's now drawn Richard in.

"It's a massive surprise but I suppose in the grand scheme of things, it's all part of the aggravation Richard's been getting - it's something else he's got to deal with."

  • HATTON also began his bid to establish himself outside of the ring by announcing a link-up with Lonsdale to manufacture his own clothing range.

The deal was officially launched at Burtons at the Trafford Centre last week.

Looks like Hatton has another court case on him. With this and his unbeaten record to look after, he is certainly walking on very thin ice at the moment.
