Carnforth 7 Ashton 49 - ASHTON capitalised on their nearest rivals having the day off to increase their lead at the top of North Lancs Two.

While Carnforth were solid enough for the opening quarter of the game, they had no answer when Ashton put their collective foot down and accumulated their points.

The scoring began in the 22nd minute when cleanly taken lineout ball was mauled forward far enough for Kyle Hall to go in for a simple try.

Five minutes later, the Ashton pack had their opponents back pedalling over their own line at a set scrum, from which Chris Grayson had the final touchdown, Richard Mooney's conversion taking the score to 12-0.

Slack tackling saw Carnforth in for a converted try, after which Grayson was sinbinned for some overly physical play.

However, Mooney's penalty gave the visitors a 15-7 lead at the break.

Although the home defence remained solid early in the second half, another clean lineout saw Ashton's Neil Oldham break off the back of the maul for a solo try.

Mooney kicked another penalty before more good work up front triggered a converted try for Mike Hylands.

Matt Sutton was the next Ashton player to touch down before the scoring ended with converted tries from Ben Riley and Bob Crickett as Ashton enjoyed another excellent afternoon on their travels.
