Hall's well

27/12/2006

ASHTON RUFC continued their excellent form by defeating Fylde Saracens 38-0 at Gambrel Bank.

They began like the proverbial house on fire, taking the lead when hooker Kyle Hall went over for a try converted by Richard Mooney.

A spell of Fylde pressure followed, but Ashton's defence remained solid and a quick tap penalty saw them extend their lead when Chris Garyson went under the posts, Mooney kicking an easy conversion.

Having withstood yet more pressure from their opponents, Ashton pulled further ahead as Gareth Blomey went over in the corner. Mooney's conversion made it 21-0 at the break.

The opening 15 minutes of the second half saw some resolute defendeing from Fylde, but it was undone when they lost a set a scrum and Mike O'Meara went over for another converted try.

Ashton kept their visitors on the back foot for much of the time left, scoring a fifth try with 10 minutes remaining when Hall strolled through for his second try.

They ended the scoring five minutes later as Matt Worthington registered their sixth and final try.
