Duffy destroys bowlers

HYDE moved into third place in the Cheshire County Cricket League table thanks to a maximum-point victory against a poor Christleton outfit at Werneth Low.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat first, Hyde saw Chris Pilkington and David Fitzsimmons add 51 for the first wicket before the latter was caught behind off Cruickshank.

Rudra Singh joined Pilkington and the pair built the base from which late fireworks would be launched as they added 105 before the former was dismissed for 39.

The acceleration came from James Duffy who blitzed the bowling all over the park, scoring 30 in one over from off-spinner Newell on his way to 54 from 17 balls.

That saw Hyde declare their innings with six overs still available on 268-2, Pilkington carrying his bat for a magnificent unbeaten 132.

Christleton's reply began positively despite giving Hyde a number of chances that were not taken.

However, once they lost their first few wickets, Christleton never looked like they would get near to the Hyde total.

Spinners Danny Woods (4-52) and Danny Berry (2-15) did most of the damage as the visitors were all out for 157.

This Saturday sees Hyde look to consolidate third place in the table when they face second-placed Oulton Park.
